Man slammed for inviting 5,000 people to dog’s birthday party – with 100kg cake

Everyone is guilty of spoiling their pets – but one owner has been accused of going too far after throwing his dog a huge birthday party.

A man has been slammed on social media after celebrating his labrador’s birthday with a 100kg cake and 5,000 party guests.

Shivappa Yellappa Maradi, from Karnataka, India, didn’t hold back for his pooch’s special day, also ordering chickens for the guests to munch on and booking live music for the occasion.

Following the party in Mudalgi, Belgaum district, India, a video of the celebrations has been circulating on social media, leaving users conflicted – with many slamming the owner for the excess, as well as how he held up the dog when singing to him.

In the footage, the owner holds a cake-cutting ceremony, letting the labrador, named Krish, to dunk his nose straight into the giant cake, while surrounded by the many guests.

Krish can be seen wearing a purple cap and looking rather puzzled by the situation. The dog was then lifted up while guests sung happy birthday to him.

After the video racked in more than 149,000 views in one post, a user said: “All this is done clearly to gain fame. He doesn’t even know how to hold the dog properly.

“The dog is so uncomfortable and looks scared too. And coming to the cake, I hope it was specially ordered for the dog and not the regular cake that we humans eat.”

While another person added: “Clearly, he’s not enjoying it.”

“It’s such a stupidity. If he was a dog lover he would have fed street dogs on this occasion,” someone else added.

A fourth user said: “I appreciate the gesture but he should also realise that dogs aren’t supposed to eat cake which is edible by humans.”

However, others felt more positively about the event, saying “So cute, best video of the day”.

“Dog lovers support me,” commented someone else, adding fire and heart emojis.

“I support him, but he should know how to hold his pet dog,” added another user.
